satellites and, by combining all the data, calculates the position of the receiver. <span class="highlight">GPS</span> technology is now used in transportation, communication, public safety, and many other applications. <span class="highlight">GPS</span> receivers are standard equipment <span class="highlight">on</span> commercial ships, and the system is so inexpensive that it is widely used in recreational boats and in automobiles.
